Electric shutters cost more upfront because of the motor, wiring, and (often) an electrician’s time to run power to the unit. As a reference, the cost for electric shutters is generally $300-450 more than manual shutters. Manual shutters are cheaper to buy and install but obviously take more effort to operate daily. For anything above head height, most customers find electric worth the extra cost.

Our experience technician can normally install a domestic shutter within 30-45mins. A full house (8–12 shutters) is typically completed in one days, depending on access and whether any of the openings need extra prep work.

Yes — a closed aluminium roller shutter is a genuine physical barrier, not just a visual deterrent. It won’t stop a determined break-in on its own, but it significantly slows down and discourages opportunistic entry, which is most break-ins. To be honest, most of the thieves will simply give up after seeing the shutters are installed on your house.

Closed shutters create an insulating air gap against the glass, which noticeably reduces heat gain in summer and heat loss in winter. West-facing rooms in Sydney tend to see the biggest difference. Compare to blinds and plantation shutters, roller shutter blocks the heat outside of the window which make it more efficient in insulation.

To a meaningful degree, yes. A closed shutter adds a second barrier outside the glass, which cuts down traffic and street noise — useful for homes on busier roads or near flight paths.

Fully closed, good-quality shutters block out the large majority of external light, which is why they’re popular for shift workers’ bedrooms and nurseries. Some light can still creep in at the side channels depending on the install, so it’s worth mentioning if total blackout is your priority.

Yes, most electric shutters can be fitted with external receiver that’s compatible with a Wifi hub which can enable app and voice control, plus scheduling (e.g. close automatically at sunset). This is easiest to add at installation time, though some setups can be retrofitted.

Electric shutters can be fitted with a battery backup so you’re not locked in or out during a blackout. It’s an optional extra we’d recommend main entry shutters in particular if all windows and doors at your home are covered by roller shutters.

BAL-rated shutters are available and are often required by council for properties in designated bushfire zones — common in parts of the Hills District, Blue Mountains fringe, and other bushland-adjacent suburbs. Worth flagging early if your property falls in one of these zones, as it affects both product choice and compliance.

Quality aluminium shutters are built to withstand normal Sydney storm conditions, including strong wind gusts, when properly installed and closed. Wind ratings can vary by product line, which we’ll factor in for more exposed properties (e.g. near the coast or on a ridge).

Very little — an occasional wipe-down and a check that the tracks are free of debris is generally enough. Electric units may benefit from a yearly check of the motor and battery if fitted.

Yes, in most cases. Individual slats, tracks, or motors can usually be replaced without redoing the whole unit, which keeps repair costs down compared to a full replacement.

Yes — we measure on-site at no cost and turn around most quotes within a couple of days. From order to installation, lead time depends on custom colours or sizing, but standard jobs are usually completed within 2-3 weeks.
